Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room - Nancy Guthrie

Daily devotions for Advent. This is a book of daily readings for every day in December with discussion starters and Bible verses for each day. There is an area to record comments and questions at the end of each section to personalize the book. Also included are several popular Christmas carols with music and lyrics and explanations on the history and context of the songs.
I enjoyed this book because of the ability of the author to bring to life the Christmas season in an interesting collection of writings that could easily stand on their own. I  particularly enjoyed learning  the history of certain Christmas carols that I was not aware of.
I would recommend this book to families looking to remember and emphasize the real Reason for Christmas. Some families are so busy during this time of year as the author says: "The good things can squeeze out the Best thing." And the best thing is to remember why we celebrate Christmas in the first place. The only drawback I had found was that this is a very small book, and those that are visually challenged may have a hard time reading it's fine print. Although it's size would make a great stocking stuffer! Published by Tyndale.

I have received a copy of this book at no charge by the publisher.

The Discipline of Grace - Jerry Bridges

God's role and our role in the pursuit of holiness. This book takes the author's previous book, The Pursuit of Holiness, and digs deeper into the subject of God's grace. It is a Bible based explanation of God's grace in our lives and our response to it. The author includes quotes from John Owen, Jonathan Edwards, and John Calvin among others. Citing Biblical references, the author explains in plain language, our role and God's role in the growth of a Christian. The back cover sums up the subject of the book this way: "Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the each of God's grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God's grace."
There are so many good points in this book, I found myself reading slower than usual to not miss anything. It is good to find a book with a lot of "meat" instead of just fluff. It is a well researched, well written book, exactly what I have come to expect from Navpress.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a deeper, scripture based understanding of God's grace.
This book is published by Navpress, the publishing ministry of the Navigators.
