The Total Money Makeover Classic Edition - Dave Ramsey

A Proven Plan for Financial Success.  This book is for in Dave's own words "people who are financially flabby, and overweight with debt." Dave Ramsey is unique among the current advice givers on financial matters in that his foundation is in Christianity.  He starts out by stating what this book is NOT. It is not complicated, not politically correct, and not just about math, facts, and figures.  He encourages readers to skip around and read the success stories of people who have followed his advice, and you really can't argue with the truth.
I am particularly pleased that he mentions one of my favorite authors Randy Alcorn on page 197 and recommends his book, Money, Possessions and Eternity. This book requires action and interaction, there are great worksheets in the back to get you started.  The author has been around a while and knows what he is talking about because he has learned things the hard way.( He says he has a PhD in DUMB.)  Using his system and working through the "baby steps", you can be debt free and living the life you want.  His motto is "If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else." This book is for anyone, those who are just starting out on their first job, and those adults who have been working their entire lives and may have made some poor financial choices, and those who just want to learn how to get a handle on their finances.
As a side note, Dave has recently been critical of the current administration and the Heatlthcare options available, and I'm certain made some enemies.  I respect his coming out with his opinions and being so outspoken, knowing how unpopular it may be, but then again, Dave has never been politically correct.

The One Year Book of Bible Trivia for Kids - Katrina Cassel

One Year of Bible Trivia Questions and Daily Devotions for kids ages 8 to 12.  This book is a great tool to use for daily devotions with a Question and multiple choice answers along with an explanation of the context of the story.  There is a For You section for each day that each child can apply to his or her life.  The great part about this book is you can start on any day and it gives you an entire year of devotions on their level of understanding.  The questions can also be a springboard for deeper conversations and may bring up other questions.
This book is part of the One Year Bible series and is written by Katrina Cassel who has children of her own and is the author of The Christian Girl's Guide to Being Your Best and The Christian Girl's Guide to the Bible.  There is a scripture index in the back with a scripture reference for each day.  The Year plan roughly follows the order of the Bible starting in Genesis in January and through Revelation in December.
I would recommend this book to parents of 8-12 year olds that want their children to learn more about the Bible in a fun and exciting way, the inclusion of a trivia question makes it more interesting and does hold attention.
